Pringsewu is one of the district in Lampung province which is inhabited by a majority of Javanese people. Pringsewu, which in Javanese means thousands of bamboo. This district was approved as a district at the DPR Plenary Meeting on October 29, 2008, as a division of Tanggamus Regency. This district is located 37 kilometers west of Bandar Lampung, the provincial capital. Before it was approved as a district, Pringsewu entered the Southern Lampung regency. Pringsewu called the small Java of Sumatera, That's because of the village that was there. Names of its village like Pringkumpul, Pringkumpul, Tambak Rejo, Purworejo, Wonosobo, Tempel, Sidoharjo hingga Yogyakarta and Klaten. A. History of Pringsewu

      Pringsewu's history begins with the establishment of a village (tiuh) named Margakaya in 1738 AD, which is inhabited by indigenous people of the Lampung-Pubian tribe located on the banks of the Way Tebu river (4 & km from the center of Pringsewu City to the south at this time). Then the next 187 years, in 1925, a group of people from Java Island, through a colonization program by the Dutch East Indies government, also opened a new settlement area by clearing a fairly thick bamboo forest in the vicinity of the Margakaya neighborhood. Because of the large number of bamboo trees in the forest they opened, the newly opened village community was called Pringsewu, which came from the Javanese language which means Thousand Bamboo.

Currently the area that used to be a bamboo forest has transformed into a fairly developed and bustling city in Lampung Province, which is now known as 'Pringsewu' which is currently also one of the largest cities in Lampung Province.
      Furthermore, in 1936 stood the government of Kawedanan Tataan which had its capital in Pringsewu, with the first Wedana namely Mr Ibrahim until 1943.

Furthermore, Kawedanan Tataan was led by Mr. Ramelan in 1943, Mr. Nurdin in 1949, Mr. Hasyim Asmarantaka in 1951, Mr. Saleh Adenan in 1957, and in 1959 was appointed as Wedana namely Mr. R.Arifin Kartaprawira which was Wedana last until 1964, when the Kawaranan Tataan government was abolished.

In 1964, a government of Pringsewu Sub-district was formed which was part of the South Lampung District Level II in accordance with Law Number 14 of 1964, which Pringsewu had previously also been part of Pagelaran District which also had its capital in Pringsewu.

In the history of the next trip, Pringsewu Subdistrict along with a number of other sub-districts in the western part of South Lampung which were part of the administrative area of ​​the Mayor of South Lampung, Kotaagung Region, were part of Tanggamus Regency based on Law No. 2 of 1997, forming autonomous regions independent.
      Pringsewu Regency is a heterogeneous region consisting of various ethnic groups, with Javanese people being quite dominant, in addition to the indigenous people of Lampung, which consist of people who are civilized Pepadun (Pubian) and Saibatin (Peminggir) civilized communities.

Pringsewu Regency has an area of ​​625 km2, has a population of 377,857 inhabitants (2011 data) consisting of 195,400 men and 18,457 women.

Pringsewu Regency consists of 96 villages (desa) and 5 kelurahan, which are spread in 9 sub-districts, namely Pringsewu District, Pagelaran, Pardasuka District, Gadingrejo District, Sukoharjo District, Ambarawa District, Adiluwih District, Banyumas District and North Pagelaran District.

In terms of area, Pringsewu Regency is currently the smallest, and most densely populated district in Lampung Province.

C. Demographics of Pringsewu



      Under the Act on Establishment of Pringsewu Regency population in 2008 numbered 351.093 inhabitants. E. Government Administration


      Pringsewu is one of regencies in Lampung province that is the result of expansion of Tanggamus Regency, and was established by Act No. 48 of 2008 dated November 26th 2008 and inaugurated on April 3rd, 2009 by the Minister of the Interior.
      Hereinafter designated as Pj. Regent Pringsewu for the first time was Ir. H. Masdullhaq, who lead the government in the Pringsewu Regency which was then replaced by H. Helmi Machmud, then by Sudarno Edi, and now Pringsewu Regency is lead by Hi. Sujadi Saddat.

      In the education sector, Pringsewu Regency has 275 Public and 39 Private Elementary Schools / Madrasas, 22 Public Middle Schools, 32 Private Middle Schools, 12 Public High Schools / Vocational Schools, 27 Private High Schools / Vocational Schools and 8 Private Universities such as Muhammadiyah Pringsewu STIKES, Dian Cipta Cendikia (DCC) Pringsewu, Pringsewu Academy of Technology, STIE Muhammadiyah Pringsewu, STKIP Muhammadiyah Pringsewu, STIKES Aisyah Pringsewu, AKBID Alifa Pringsewu, and STMIK Pringsewu. In the field of education as well, many students from Pringsewu Regency have outstanding achievements and have scented not only for Pringsewu Regency but also for Lampung Province, and even brought the name of Indonesia at the world level, such as Irfan Haris a student from Pringsewu 1 High School who won the Biology Science Olympiad in Japan and South Korea in a row.

In the field of sports, it cannot be denied, that the achievements of the best sons and daughters of Pringsewu are very proud and magnificent, not only for Pringsewu Regency or Lampung Province, but also for the Indonesian Nation. Imron Rosyadi with the Padepokan Gajah Lampung as a weightlifting and weight training center whose name is even famous throughout the world. From the hands of Imron Rosyadi, many famous world lifter-lifter from Indonesia were born.

Lisa Rumbewas, one of the world lifters who succeeded in getting a gold medal at the Olympics a few years ago was also listed as one of the lifter who had received training at Pringsewu Lampung Elephant Center.
